Kelly Clarkson Pays Tribute to Dolly Parton at ACM E! News UK

Kelly Clarkson paid tribute to Dolly Parton at this year’s Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, with a performance of “I Will Always Love You”.

The 39-year-old singer sang the late Whitney Houston’s classic hit in honor of the 76-year-old country music legend, who hosted the ceremony at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Monday night (07.03.22).

Afterwards, Dolly – who received a standing ovation from the crowd – said: “I know Whitney is smiling at us tonight so thank you so much – she would be proud of that.

“I was backstage trying not to make my false eyelashes cry – throwing snot all over the place and tears. But anyway, it was amazing work!”

Kelly revealed on her show last month that she planned to pay tribute to Dolly at the event.

She said at the time, “I love him so much.”

The “Jolene” Dolly singer dedicated the show to the people of Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion of the country.

Opening the ceremony, she said: “I love to laugh, I love to joke and we’re going to have a great time tonight, but I want us to take a serious moment before we start with all of our fun.

“Now I don’t want to be political and I’m not. I’d rather have a kidney stone than do this, but I want us to send our love and hope to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine.

“So why not dedicate this whole show to them and pray for peace in this crazy old world?”

At the event, Miranda Lambert, Carly Pearce and Lainey Wilson were the big winners of the night, taking home two prizes each.

Miranda won the coveted Artist of the Year award and she also won Video of the Year for her and Elle King’s backing on the song “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)”.

She told the crowd: “Oh my God, I can’t believe I’m not here to celebrate.

“This is the first time I’ve missed the ACMs in 17 years.

“My heart is a little broken, but I’m happy to be where I am. I’ve been waiting for this for a very, very long time.”

Carly Pearce won Female Artist of the Year and she also won Music Event of the Year for “Never Wanted to Be That Girl” alongside Ashley McBryde.

Lainey Wilson won both Song of the Year for “Things a Man Oughta Know” and New Female Artist of the Year.

Additionally, Chris Stapleton won Male Artist of the Year, The Osborne Brothers won Duo of the Year, and Old Dominion won Group of the Year.
