The star-studded Basadi in Music Awards are launched

The launch of the Basadi in Music Awards was a prestigious, glamorous and spectacular event held at the Joburg Theater on March 8th.

The music industry showed up in all its finery on International Women’s Day as the cameras clicked, the bubbles flowed and the fabulous dresses stole the show.

The awards, which were founded by Hloni Modise, celebrate the excellence of women in the entertainment industry as singers, performers, songwriters, producers and in various other fields.

Nominees and winners are elected by the public.

Attending the event were the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Dr Mpho Phalatse, and industry powerhouses including Abigail Kubheka, Linah Ebony Ngcobo, Penny Lebyane and Gloria Bosman. New talents including Cici, Candice Modiselle, Ntombee Ngcobo Mzolo, Maleh and Ayanda Jaya also dazzled on the red carpet.

Tiyani Maluleke, Chief Marketing Officer, said, “As the Sampra (South African Music Performance Rights Association) team, we are incredibly proud to be part of this brand because of everything it stands for and everything she seeks to achieve. The work you have started is to be commended. We would like to congratulate you on this momentous achievement and look forward to a great and lasting partnership.

Modise said: “It all started as an idea that I put down on paper that seemed huge, impossible and unrealistic. When I talked to people, they told me it was a great idea. It’s unreal that yesterday we launched an idea whose time is overdue. I am humbled by the support of our generous sponsors and the industry that has embraced this initiative. Great things happen when women come together.

“It’s for all the young girls who have big dreams and are scared. I wish they could watch yesterday’s launch and realize that it is possible.
