Chris Stapleton and Carly Pearce win 2022 CMA nominations

The nominees for the 56th Annual Country Music Association Awards were announced Wednesday, and once again the state of Kentucky is well represented.

Chris Stapleton and Carly Pearce have each been nominated for several CMA awards, including Male and Female Vocalist of the Year.

Considered the biggest night in country music, the Country Music Awards were first held in 1967 and honor nominees and winners selected by more than 6,000 professional industry members of the Country Music Association. The CMA 2022 will take place on Wednesday, November 9.

Here are the nominations for each artist:

Pearce, 32, grew up in Taylor Mill, Ky., and has a Bluegrass State outline tattooed on his right wrist. She received five nominations from the CMA Association for the 56th Awards Ceremony, including:

  • Female singer of the year
  • Music Video of the Year (“Never Wanted To Be That Girl”)
  • Musical Event of the Year (“Never Wanted To Be That Girl”)
  • Single of the Year (“Never Wanted To Be That Girl”)
  • Song of the Year (“Never Wanted To Be That Girl”)

Pearce adds these five nominations to his previous seven. She is the reigning singer of the year and returns in 2022 to compete for her second win in the category. “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” earned Pearce her first Single of the Year nomination and her second nomination in the Music Video, Music Event and Song of the Year categories.

A native of Staffordsville, Ky., Stapleton, 45, was quick to respond when devastating flooding swept through parts of eastern Kentucky this summer. Stapleton is nominated for five 2022 CMA awards, including:

  • Artist of the year
  • Male Singer of the Year
  • Music Video of the Year (“I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)”)
  • Bachelor of the Year (“You Probably Should Leave”)
  • Song of the Year (“You Probably Should Leave”)

Counting this year’s five nominations, Stapleton has amassed 39 career CMA nominations. He is nominated six times for Entertainer of the Year and eight times for Male Vocalist, a category he has won five times.

Ahead of the CMA Awards which will air Wednesday, November 9 on ABC and will be hosted by Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning, Stapleton will headline the Bourbon & Beyond Music Festival 2022, Sunday, September 18 at the Highlands Festival Grounds in Louisville. Pearce will open for Blake Shelton at KFC YUM! Center on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
