Gorillaz to headline MTV World Stage Düsseldorf – Reuters

The Grammy Award-winning band’s performance from Düsseldorf’s Tonhalle concert hall will be broadcast worldwide during the 2022 “MTV EMAs”

MTV announced today that multiple EMA and Grammy award-winning band Gorillaz will headline ‘MTV World Stage Düsseldorf’ at the iconic Tonhalle Concert Hall on Saturday November 12th. The concert will take place before the “MTV EMAs” 2022, hosted by Rita Ora and Taika Waititi, broadcast live on Sunday, November 13 at 9:00 p.m. CET from the PSD Bank Dome in Germany.

The BRIT and Grammy Award-winning band, co-created by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, consists of vocalist 2D, bassist Murdoc Niccals, drummer Russel Hobbs and guitarist Noodle. With seven albums to their name, Gorillaz are a truly global phenomenon, achieving success in entirely new and unique ways, touring the world and winning numerous awards. Cracker Island (2023), Gorillaz’s eighth studio album, will be released on February 24 next year, an energetic, upbeat and expansive 10-track collection featuring another stellar lineup of collaborating artists. Gorillaz recently completed a hugely successful world tour, traveling across North America, Europe and Australia. The band is nominated for a 2022 EMA in the “Best Alternative” category.

MTV World Stage is a global series that features top artists from around the world. Recorded live at the most exclusive concerts, world-renowned music festivals and unique concert venues, MTV World Stage is the front row seat for music lovers who want to experience the world’s greatest artists without leaving the comfort of their couch.

The 2022 MTV EMAs will also feature performances by Ava Max, Bebe Rexha, David Guetta, Lewis Capaldi, Muse, Stormzy, GAYLE, OneRepublic, Kalush Orchestra, SPINALL, Äyanna and Nasty C, with guest appearances by Julian Lennon, Leomie Anderson, and Sam Ryder.

The 2022 “MTV EMAs” will air live on MTV in over 170 countries and on Pluto TV in select territories in the United States, Latin America and Europe and on Comedy Central in Germany on November 13. It will be available on Paramount+ and Pluto TV globally starting November 14.

Fans can vote for their favorites in 17 gender-neutral categories, including ‘Best Song’, ‘Best Artist’, ‘Best Collaboration’ and two all-new categories ‘Best Long Form Video’ and ‘Best Metaverse Performance’, at www. mtvema.com until November 9 at 11:59 p.m. CET.
