Nominations for Basadi at the Music Awards are ending soon

Nominations for the first Basadi in Music Awards (Bima) close soon.

The awards are a celebration of female excellence within the music industry. The public was encouraged to text the category code and its nominee to 49960 by midnight on May 19. Each SMS has a cost of R2 with no limit on the number of times the audience can name their favorites.

Nominated musicians must have released new music between April 1, 2021 and April 30, 2022.

The shortlisted nominees in all 23 categories will be announced in June 2022, after which the public can vote for their favorites to win. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony scheduled for August 2022 to coincide with Women’s Month.

Hloni Modise Matau, Founder and CEO of Bima, commented, “We have received thousands of nominations so far which is extremely exciting, especially as this is the first edition of the Basadi in Music Awards. .”

“Given the caliber of nominations, this will undoubtedly be a celebration of women in music who have passed through glass ceilings and inspired thousands. We want to provide the best platform to recognize these women and we call on the public to help us do that by naming their favorite women in music,” Matau continued.

Tiyani Maluleke, Marketing Director of Sampra, said, “We are thrilled that nominations for the Basadi in Music Awards are open to the public to nominate their favorite female artists who are taking up space in the music industry.”

“Female representation in the music industry is important and we commend Bima for creating such a platform that seeks to recognize female creators and their musical talents,” concluded Maluleke.
