Okay Kaya shares “Spinal Tap” | New

After winning the 2020 Spellemann Prize “Watch This Liquid For Itself”, Alright Kaya is back. Determined to explore all things cerebral, forthcoming album ‘SAP’ is an oozing, reflective journey into the death of the ego. Our first taste of the November 4 release comes in the form of the avant-garde single “Spinal Tap” – a track that slides down your spine and immerses you in the rich sonic world of Okay Kaya.

As ‘Spinal Tap’ awakens, you can’t help but feel yourself sinking into it. The track, written, performed, engineered and produced entirely by Kaya, is an otherworldly delight; Okay Kaya created a woozy soundscape, vocals warm and thick as the layered vocals slowly build. The track is both soporific and enlightening, the combination hypnotic and beautiful.

Speaking on the track, Okay Kaya explains that it aims to explore the strange reality of what dreams really are; “I wrote ‘Spinal Tap’ because you may have thought your brain was an impermeable slate, your dreams as food strictly for Freudian thought,” Kaya explains, “but, according to a science.org article from 2019 on CSF fluid, dreams are “Great oscillations of fluid inflow into the brain that appear during sleep…Slow oscillatory neural activity thus causes oscillations in blood volume, sucking in cerebrospinal fluid in and out of the brain.”

This visceral, fleshy exploration of what makes us human is the foundation of “SAP”; the outing aims to explore the dissociative absurdity of human consciousness and body. This thinking took Okay Kaya on an intense journey of thinking – levels that yielded some deeply intriguing and baffling insights. When explaining the name of the album, Kaya poses the question: “What if you were tree juice? How far do you have to roll down the rod before you walk away from your parents and realize that you are that person’s tear and that person’s blood? »

“The trippy visuals of Spinal Tap are the culmination of the efforts of Kaya and visual artist Austin Lee. Go deep.
