The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Newark, NJ on Sunday, August 28, while the VMAs remain on the East Coast

From Brooklyn’s Barclays Center across the bridge in Newark, New Jersey, this year’s 2022 MTV Video Music Awards are set to take place live on Sunday, August 28. Hailing from the Prudential Center in NJ, be sure to tune in to MTV, VH1, and Paramount+ to catch all of the action-packed performances, awards, and most shocking VMA moments at 8 p.m. EST.

There’s something about having the VMAs in the tri-state area that really complements the show itself. From their final years at Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and now the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, viewers can look forward to a 2022 Video Music Awards full of flavor, swag-filled, and unforgettable.

For generations, the MTV VMAs have been a cultural staple of music and entertainment — and this year is certain not to be an exception. From Britney Spears’ famous kiss with Madonna in 2003 (and let’s not forget her controversial performance in 2000, when she danced with a python around her neck in 2001, when she presented the Video Vanguard award to Michael Jackson in 2002), to Kanye West and Taylor Swift’s controversial acceptance speech, to the lip-locking of Michael Jackson and his then-wife Lisa Marie Presley at the 1994 VMAs, to Lil Kim’s infamous seashell outfit in 1999, to the Rage Against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford bum rushing onto the stage at the 2000 VMAs, trying to quit all night climbing production after losing to Limp Bizkit, Lady Gaga’s famous 2010 meat dress, performance Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke’s 2013 VMAs, and all those most talked-about moments between the two – the MTV VMAs remain one of the most relevant, important and fun price shows that there is.
