Winners of the Gold Coast Music Awards 2022
Country music artist Casey Barnes stole the show at the 2022 Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMA), with the ‘God Took His Time On You’ singer winning the prestigious Entertainer of the Year award and inducted into the Temple of price fame.
Held Saturday, September 3 at Home Of The Arts with a red carpet gala ceremony, Barnes relied on his 18 GCMA nominations to win Entertainer of the Year for the third consecutive year; while he is only the second artist to be inducted into the GCMA Hall Of Fame, following the induction of Amy Shark in 2019.
“A pretty decent birthday present,” Casey shared on his social media. “I’m thrilled to win Entertainer of the Year and also be inducted (alongside my girlfriend Amy Shark) into the Hall of Fame.
“Thanks for all the birthday messages today guys. It’s been a fucking good day.”
Michael Chugg AM, Executive Chairman of Chugg Entertainment, added, “Chugg Music is proud to congratulate Casey Barnes on receiving the Entertainer of the Year award and achieving GCMA Hall Of Fame status.
“It’s been an incredible three years with Casey as he rose through the ranks of Australia’s top country artists, here and in America.
“We would also like to congratulate the GCMA team for this incredible annual event, which does so much for Queensland artists and the music industry.”
Now in its eighth year, other 2022 GCMA winners included Wildheart (who received the most 2022 GCMA nominations with five) who scored the gong for release of the year with “Global Crisis”.
“Thank you to everyone who helped bring this album to life and to all of you for supporting this album,” Wildhart posted on their social media.
Slick indie funk rockers Buttered took home Entertainer of the Year while up-and-coming singer-songwriter and producer Sofia Isella took home Musician of the Year (she’s just 17 year).
“Thank you so much to the Gold Coast Music Awards. It blew my mind. My parents, Owen Orford, everyone who was part of Sofia Isella & Friends, all the other nominees, the judges, the venues, everyone who came to the Rainbow The Rocket Ride and Gold Coast tour – thank you,” Sofia said.
“I am honored that you have allowed me to be part of your beautiful community that you have created. My favorite people were in this room yesterday. I wish I could have been there.”
Eliza And The Delusionals recorded an amazing 12 months (where they recorded and released their debut album ‘Now And Then’, toured nationally in August selling out all the shows, while later this month they return to the USA to support Silvers Pickups) to win Song of the Year for ‘Save Me’.
After endorsements with Tiny Little Houses, Holy Holy and These New South Whales as well as headlining Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and following Floodlights on their sold-out Queensland tour, family band Girl And Girl are the winners of the Gold Coast Music Prize.
“Delighted to have won the Gold Coast Music Prize at the GCMAs. A few things I wanted to say besides ‘it makes us feel very good’.
“Firstly to Gold Coast Music Network for putting it all together, I can’t imagine the work that goes into an event like this; recognition on this kind of scale for a little old band like us is so heartwarming, and we’re so incredibly grateful. Secondly, to all the punks who’ve supported us along the way, we love you.
Teen Lily Grace continues to turn heads in the industry, with the Gold Coast native winning the People’s Choice Award.
“Our 2022 award winners and finalists are a true reflection of the depth and diversity of creative talent that continues to grow and emerge from this city,” said Chloe Popa, co-founder of the awards.
“It was such a close call for the judges in so many categories, it really gets harder and harder every year to pick the finalists and the winners.
“The winners announced today are all deserving of this accolade and we are especially delighted to announce that Casey will be inducted into the Gold Coast Music Hall Of Fame. We look forward to seeing his star continue to rise.”
